Hey guys, since everyone seems to be discussing status updates of fics, I thought I'd make more excuses let everyone know how things are going because I know you're all anxious for me to get to work, right? Right? Beuler?

Voting is now open at Children of Time Awards. I have TWO fics nominated in multiple categories:

* In The Family, for Children of Earth and Angst
* Different Kind of Magic, for Hurt/Comfort and Angst

(are you trying to tell me something, people?)

I am honored to simply be nominated alongside a plethora of incredibly talented authors. GO VOTE!

And now, fics/writing:

* Slipping Through is almost done. I've been swearing at it for weeks, but it's getting done TONIGHT come Hell or high water.
* DKoM 21 is exactly halfway done. I have one more scene to write.
* Auction fics are coming. I'm almost done with the Sarah Jane one, Idris is being suspiciously quiet. I foresee a character revolt when I start writing it. Little so-and-so.
* I have signed up for [livejournal.com profile] reel_torchwood (WTF am I on?). Two fics -- Howl's Moving Castle and Junior with [livejournal.com profile] totally4ryo. OMG you people are going to love it. Seriously. It'll be awesome. And I absolutely adore HMC, so I hope you'll all enjoy it.
* Speaking of Diana Wynne Jones (the author of Howl's Moving Castle), I'm going to be adapting one of her novels for Script Frenzy this year. And if there's time, maybe another one. I need to get some script writing books. Any suggestions?
* Yes, [livejournal.com profile] wrianojune will be up and running in June. We have a web site too, open year-round.

Only slightly unrelated, I noticed that [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti is not doing another full round at the end of February this time in favor of streamlining auction protocols. Good luck, HH mods! You're on the side of the angels!

However, I noticed a new auction comm opened recently, [livejournal.com profile] ianto_for_cin. I can hear some eye rolls now, but it's for Children in Need, so at least go troll the threads. I will NOT be participating in that one -- my backlog needs to be cleared out first.

[livejournal.com profile] supportstacie will be doing another auction at the end of March, which I hope to do -- but only if I get my other fics done first! Find more info here. Sign up date is by March 22.

That's it for now!

Real quick before I have to run to work:

Congrats to [livejournal.com profile] teachwriteslash, who is a bloody fucking warrior woman! She apparently won a TON of lots, mine included. This woman is one of the most generous people I have ever had the good fortune to meet, and I'm honor to call her a friend.

[livejournal.com profile] luvinthe88and20 was generous enough to take a last-minute second place slot.

Special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] gingerlr, who kicked off the bidding despite everything going on with her RL currently. ILU, honey!

In total, my lot drew in $50 for Haiti!

Thank you so much, you generous, generous people! I am so, so touched that you did this for a good cause.

Therefore, it gives me great joy to announce that there will soon be not ONE but TWO Mageverse side stories -- one focusing on Sarah Jane and one focusing on Idris!

And I'm late!

Thanks again, everyone!

The [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti auction ends today at noon EST (US). If you click the link, you'll see how many minutes remain.

Master Lists of all the lots are avaliable here at the lj comm.

Here are some lots of interest, based off my f-page. I apologize profusely if I missed anyone:

[livejournal.com profile] gracie_musica -- One Mageverse Interlude. The winning bidder chooses a character (not Jack or Ianto, they're the main characters, crazies) and will get a back and/or parallel to the main story with the 'minor' character as the focus. Depending on how the bidding goes, I can be convinced to do two. For the friends of mine who want to participate but don't read fic (or Mageverse), I get to pick the character. You get the warm fuzzies from donating and my undying devotion. Lot thread can be found here. Current highest bid: $25.

The Rest Here )

[livejournal.com profile] teachwriteslash is in the lead for a lot of these lots. DO YOU WANT HER TO WIN EVERYTHING?! ;)

DUDES.

NO, SERIOUSLY. DUDES. )

SO HERE'S THE TL:DR VERSION: REAL LIFE IS REAL AND I'M SORRY I LEFT YOU, INTERNETS. I WILL FEED YOU FIC TO PLACATE YOUR HUNGER. TOMORROW.

Now, for other things.

As anyone who's flipped on anything social media related lately has heard, there was a major earthquake in Haiti a few days ago. The story, of course, is still unfolding, but the bottom line is this: Massive, widespread destruction, deaths, and injuries. People have lost everything -- and quite a few didn't have that much to lose to begin with.

To quote Jon Stewart, "It's times like these, really, the only good thing you can say, is that whenever something this horrific happens, everyone comes together. Everyone."

That's where [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti comes in. Charity auctions for a good cause! People are auctioning off fics, videos, art, even things like baked goods, and all the money goes straight to charity. No, really. [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti is just a portal. You place a bid -- if you win (deadline's the 20th of January), you donate to a charity of your choice with a focus on Haiti earthquake relief, prove that you donated (I'm assuming it'll be forwarding the "Thank you so much!" email), and get your reward. Go check out the threads. They're super awesome.

I, of course, along with a fair bit of the f-list, threw my hat into the ring. I'm going to list their lots and link to them here. If you have a lot, leave the details in a comment and I'll edit this post.

I do want to say one thing about the charity effort -- well, two things:

One, it is seriously just so wonderful and astounding to see the outpouring of caring coming from my fellow man at this moment. I know everyone wants to give. However, I urge you to make sure that the charity you're donating to is reputable. Charity Navigator is a wonderful tool. And, of course, if all else fails, go with the big names that you know -- the Red Cross immediately comes to mind.

Two, and again, seriously just amazing. However, this is going to take years for Haiti to recover from. Trust me when I say this -- there are people still rebuilding here from Rita. This is going to be a long haul, so try not to give just once. Do it again, and again, and again. You're all generous people. Share it, and often!

And now, the lots:

Now Under A Cut! )

GO AND BID, PEOPLE.

Okay, guys, listen up:

The Support Stacie auction's been extended to 6 PM CST, so go check it out! You have 3 1/2 hours left.

However, I must admit to being a little bummed that the scarves I have up for auction -- lovingly handmade by moi -- haven't been bid on... so here it goes:

You people put in a bid for a scarf (no starting limit, and don't forget that you'll be adding $5 for shipping after the auction) and I'll post fic tonight.

Different Kind of Magic fic. That includes porn and crazy shenanigans. You tell 'em, [livejournal.com profile] katestamps and [livejournal.com profile] totally4ryo.

*is so not above bribery*

They're down towards the end, and have pictures in the slots now!

Bidding's done. Thank [livejournal.com profile] buttononthetop, fishface44, Aunt Bea, and Oliva Jane (last three from the board) for fic tonight, children. ;)

Just a reminder that the Support Stacie I'll Be Homemade for Christmas Auction starts at 12:00 noon CST this Saturday. Bid participants are reminded that an extra $5 should be added to the lots for shipping.

The new auction board is full of totally awesome lots. Check out my previous post on this auction to see what I'm offering.

You know where this is going, right?

I'll be Homemade for Christmas -- NOW WITH SUPER-COOL PICTURES )

I know I've been slacking on the fic posting (and I have a couple of SSA fics to finish up and throw up here), and I'm sorry. After this month things should get a LOT easier for me in RL, which means more fic on my LJ!

Because I saw this on [livejournal.com profile] annemjw's Twitter, but she retweeted from [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge. Copypasta from [livejournal.com profile] sirriamnis, who copypastaed from the original article.

http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=325508

"From the Daily Herald:

Telling her mother that she wanted to come to the aid of a library under attack, 11-year-old Sydney Sabbagha stood at the podium before the Oak Brook village board. "I used to go to the library knowing there were people there to help me find a book. Now there is no one to help me," Sydney said solemnly. "It will never be the same without the people you fired." Sydney nestled back into her seat, but that didn't stop 69-year-old criminal attorney Constantine "Connie" Xinos from boldly putting her in her place.

"Those who come up here with tears in their eyes talking about the library, put your money where your mouth is," Xinos shot back. He told Sydney and others who spoke against the layoffs of the three full-time staffers (including the head librarian and children's librarian) and two part-timers to stop "whining" and raise the money themselves.

"I don't care that you guys miss the librarian, and she was nice, and she helped you find books," Xinos told them.

"Don't cry crocodile tears about people who are making $100,000 a year wiping tables and putting the books back on the shelves," Xinos smirked, apparently referencing the fired head librarian, who has advanced degrees and made $98,676 a year. He said Oak Brook had to "stop indulging people in their hobbies" and "their little, personal, private wants."

Sydney was upset and "her little friend was in tears" after Xinos spoke at the meeting last week, says mom Hope Sabbagha.

"I wanted that kid to lose sleep that night," a grinning Xinos says Wednesday, as he invites me for a nearly two-hour interview in his Mercedes-Benz in the gated Oak Brook community where he lives. "This is the real world and the lesson, you folks who brought your kids here, is if you want something, pay for it."

If you read the entire article, you get to see what a class act Xinos is.

Let's show him how classy we are.

Oak Brook homepage
Library donation page. If you can afford this, do it. Kids need books. Fact. And without people to help them find those books (even these highly educated, qualified 'people with hobbies').

Don't have the money but got an envelope and a stamp? Do something even better:

File a request for investigation with the Illinois Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission. (everyone thank [livejournal.com profile] peaceheather for this!)

more copypasta:
How Do I Request an Investigation of an Attorney?

By mailing to our office, either in Chicago or Springfield, a request that you want an attorney to be investigated by our office. Your request should be in writing. No special form is necessary. For your convenience, you may download a Request for Investigation form. Please return the Request by postal mail or hand-delivery. The ARDC does not accept an e-mail transmission of a Request for Investigation.

What Kinds of Information Should I Put in My Request for an Investigation?

A request should include all important information that relates to your request. If possible, it should be typewritten or printed to be sure that it is legible. The request should include:

Your name, address and telephone number, and the name, address and telephone number of the attorney whom you want us to investigate (include the lawyer's full name, as well as the law firm name);

Any court case names and numbers;

A description of what the lawyer did or did not do that may have been improper; and

Any supporting documents that you have, such as letters, agreements, or other documents involved.

That's right, TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT!

Now, I've talked about it before, but here's a quick recap:

The auction is to raise money for Stacie Holeman, to help her cover medical bills from battling both breast and ovarian cancer because she's uninsured. You can learn more about the Support Stacie campaign here at the main web site, on Myspace, here on LJ ([livejournal.com profile] supportstacie), and if you're Twitter inclined you can follow @SupportStacie.

The auction is currently mulitfandom -- you can find the list of authors and fandoms here, or feel free to check out the offers avaliable.

The auction starts TONIGHT AT 11:59 CDT. Because of Daylight Savings Time, that is UTC/GMT -5.

There are some really great authors signed up for this (myself excluded, of course), so seriously, go take a look.

I have three lots up for auction:

One Doctor Who 2,500 word minimum fic.

And as an added incentive, I'm offering one 100 word drabble for all bids of $10 or more. In any fandom I'm into.

I will also be writing a 1,000 word minimum ficlet for the second-place bidders if they donate their final bid offer to the auction.
