Comments on Saiyuki Reload Ep. 7

Okay... saw the infamous 'cat' episode of Saiyuki Reload.

1.) Dude. The guys falling all over a cat? ... maybe. I can buy Hakkai and Goku doing it. Gojyo and Sanzo... not so much. Although we all knew that frigid jackass had a somewhat soft side.

2.) Cho Hakkai. I am ashamed of you. You picked the equivalent of "Tortoise" for a calico cat? Goku didn't say "neko-neko", man. Creativity. And Gojyo's was a common name, but it was kinda random.

3.) And another thing on the names: they came up with "Tama" (Goku), "Mi-ke" (*sigh* Hakkai...), and "Betty" (Gojyo). I, personally, prefer the Merciful Goddess' idea of "Daigoro". Just say the name: "Dai-go-ro". It's awesome. Anyway, the cat's true name? "Mei-Mei", which is Chinese for 'little sister'. At least they get points for keeping Saiyuki's cultural setting correct.

4.) THE CAT IS A MARY SUE. I didn't even think that a cat could be a Mary Sue. Everyone loves her, she's pretty and perfect and she saves the main character's life. Dude. That's just a 'wow'. So points in my book.

All in all, mixed opinion on it.

Still think they should be in frickin' Iraq by now, though. Fits with all the sand.

True, Shunrei was rather Mary Sue. As a human in a mixed relationship, she of ALL people should have known that crimson hair and eyes were the result.

What does it say about Minekura? It just says that there are a lot of really lost people in the world. And our poor troupe has to stumble across each and every one.

The 'Betty' thing... I nearly died, because [livejournal.com profile] only_a_dream had just done a collaboration piece over on [livejournal.com profile] 1000_miles_west, the one we now refer to as cake!pr0n. He was thinking about chocolate cake when he named that cat. :: nods ::

Mmmn, maybe Egypt. Although it would be really entertaining to hear the argument when Hakkai points out that Sanzo wants to go south. Saiyuki reminds me of a comic strip I once read: "The shortest distance between two points is a straight line... But a crooked one is a lot more fun."

#^__^# Thank you. And congrats to the cousins. Spring fever in Fall.
