I sympathize. It's a product of an older generation. My mum immigrated to Canada when she was 8 and I can still really see the Old Country Village Mentality in her a lot. At times she can be surprisingly racist/bigoted, though she's a pretty liberal person. God knows what she would do if either me or my brother brought home someone who wasn't white. My brother had some pictures on facebook with a black girl he's friends with, and my mother saw them and went of a bit of a rant about 'Who is that girl? She's not Aaron's girl-friend, is she?! She can't be.' blah blah blah. So, the "as long as I don't see it" applies here too. It probably wouldn't be to comfortable if I brought home a girl. Though, only attracted to men, so far.

We have an old family friend who just came out with her girl-friend, though. Mum thinks it's a phase (and is determined to ignore it) and I don't think any one has told Dad (because we're not really sure what he'd do; not freak out, but he certainly wouldn't be able to treat her the same).
