"Are you sure about this?" Gwen asked, leaning her elbows on the conference table.

"We need someone to go undercover in UNIT temporarily," Martha explained. "We're pretty sure that the new info sharing protocols aren't being followed."

"They know who you are already," Gwen argued. "You've got contacts and friends. Wouldn't you be a logical choice?"

"When I left UNIT for Torchwood London, quite a few saw that as a betrayal," the Londoner explained. "And anyway, all my mates are medical."

"And I'm far too memorable," Jack agreed with a grin. "Ianto's the best choice and you know it. Send an Archivist to deal with the archival problem. It's the quickest way to figure it out."

Martha reached across the table to put a hand over Gwen's. "I know you're worried about him being gone -- not surprising, given what this year has done to us all. But he'll be just fine. I'll have him home in a week."

The door swung open and all three of them looked over at Ianto. He was in a UNIT dress uniform, the red and beige cap perched perfectly over his dark hair. He was pulling on gloves and straightening out the invisible wrinkles in his uniform. He took a deep breath and pushed his hands into his pockets in a gesture of nervousness. "Well?"

Jack smacked his hands on the table, making the girls jump, and gave Martha an imploring look. "Please say we get to keep the uniform."

Ianto just rolled his eyes.

of course Jack wants to keep the uniform. He's so predictable! Wouldn't be surprised if that was one of Martha's reasons for suggesting Ianto. I do like the concern they all have about Ianto going undercover.
