Okay... saw the infamous 'cat' episode of Saiyuki Reload.
1.) Dude. The guys falling all over a cat? ... maybe. I can buy Hakkai and Goku doing it. Gojyo and Sanzo... not so much. Although we all knew that frigid jackass had a somewhat soft side.
2.) Cho Hakkai. I am ashamed of you. You picked the equivalent of "Tortoise" for a calico cat? Goku didn't say "neko-neko", man. Creativity. And Gojyo's was a common name, but it was kinda random.
3.) And another thing on the names: they came up with "Tama" (Goku), "Mi-ke" (*sigh* Hakkai...), and "Betty" (Gojyo). I, personally, prefer the Merciful Goddess' idea of "Daigoro". Just say the name: "Dai-go-ro". It's awesome. Anyway, the cat's true name? "Mei-Mei", which is Chinese for 'little sister'. At least they get points for keeping Saiyuki's cultural setting correct.
4.) THE CAT IS A MARY SUE. I didn't even think that a cat could be a Mary Sue. Everyone loves her, she's pretty and perfect and she saves the main character's life. Dude. That's just a 'wow'. So points in my book.
All in all, mixed opinion on it.
Still think they should be in frickin' Iraq by now, though. Fits with all the sand.

Date: 2005-10-12 02:57 am (UTC)Remember Shun-rei? She sort of acted like a Mary-sue, too. I mean, come on:
Gojyo: You know, I'm a half demon...
Shun-rei: (Something) ..And I want to thank you for telling me.
Come ON, Minekura-sensei! The only non-Mary-sue female characters I've seen so far are Lirin and Yaone! *Whines* She's even given us Gary-lou's for crying out loud! (Or whatever you call male Mary-sue's, heh.)
*Whimper* *Whine*
...So what does that say about Minekura?
Ah, and Hakkai's name for her; change one letter and he'd have called her a tree, lol. ((Miki.) But really, Gojyo. Betty? *Shakes head sadly* You poor thing, lol...
Lol, anyway. Happy Second Anniversery, Gracie.
But I have to disagree with you on one thing; they woundlt be in Iraq.
...They'd be in frickin' EGYPT by now in minekura had any sense of direction...
It must be matrimony week and no one told me; two of my cousins just announced they were getting married, lol.

Mmmm Mary-Sue-age ... the biggest one is the four girls meet the four guys episode ... it made me laugh for the sheer twelve-year-old-ness of it.
Do you think there's a "forgotten" episode fo Saiyuki where they book the journey through a travel agent? (Now there's a crackfic for me to write). The Eastern Tour "travel the East at a leisurely pace, finally arriving to your luxury hotel in India".
Actually didn't they mention the "Kill the Sanzo-Ikkou with zeal and fervor tour" ... they should have upgraded.

Date: 2005-10-12 01:19 pm (UTC)~ jumps up and down ~ I wanna be the cat! Me! Lucky cat.
and an apology to you.. I thought I had added you to my fl a long time ago. I would see your name pop up under '1000 miles west' and other writing comms and just didn't realize I wasn't actually seeing YOU. Yes, I am just that stupid.
so anyway.. you've been added. :o)

And I love the cat episode, because it's so terrible. I don't get how anyone can take the anime seriously. So. Much. Crack.
Have you seen the bathouse episode? That's probably my favorite crack one.

Hmn... The ikkou in therapy... That I would love to see. Five minutes, and Sanzo's on anti-depressants.
And I think the "Kill the Sanzo-ikkou" tour was in the first season of Saiyuki, when they were fighting the reanimated corpses (right before Chin Yisu was introduced).
