It had been hard to leave their Ryo behind when they left on that last trip. They had never left him behind before, scheduling trips around his schooling.
Ryo had insisted that he was old enough. Elena was only an hour away, and he knew the number to 911, so come on, Dad, please?
Milan had been wonderful, a second honeymoon. They came back with pieces that would have made them a fortune.
Then they were ambushed.
As Frank took his wife's hand, all he could think was how Ryo was safe at home, thank God.

Ryo smiled as he watched his lover and the two street urchins they had taken in. It was odd to think about it, but they had all lost so much.
Each of them had lost their parents, and so young. Sometimes he missed his own parents so acutely that it ached; he wanted so badly for them to meet Dee and Bikky, they would love them.
Then he would remember that if his parents hadn't been killed, he wouldn't have become a cop. He wouldn't have met Dee, wouldn't have adopted Bikky, wouldn't know Carol...
He'd have lost so much more.
