Ianto was ducked around the beaded curtain in the Information Booth when he heard the door open. "Hello!" he called out in greeting, tucking the accounts balances he was working on out of sight. The young man pushed the curtain aside as he stepped through, giving a friendly smile.
The door to the Information Booth was wide open, but the room was empty.
Frowning, he called out again, peering over the counter. Once or twice they'd gotten little lost children wandering in. "... Hello?"
No answer. No small children looking up at him with big, teary eyes.
He frowned and went around the desk to close the door. He was almost at the steps when he heard the sound of something skittering behind him, sharp claws against the hardwood floor.
On automatic, Ianto pulled his gun and turned on his heel, aiming towards the noise. He looked down his sight --
-- and came face-to-face with a little black lab puppy. For a split second, Ianto swore that it had its over-sized paws over its head in a don't shoot! gesture.
Mercifully, it didn't pee on the floor. He'd just mopped.
"Oh, sorry about that," he said, holstering his sidearm and crouching down. He held out a hand as a peace offering. "Thought you were something that might eat me," he explained, smiling as the puppy came closer and sniffed tentatively at his fingers. "Where's your owner, hmn?" he asked, scratching carefully at the canine's ears.
"Fenrir!"
A young man, probably about uni age, peeked in through the doorway. His long hair was so dark that it almost had a dark green tint to it, and was pulled back at his neck. His glasses slipped a little down his nose as he stopped short. "Oh! There you are."
The dog bounded around Ianto to look up at the man, tail wagging. He yelped a little at his master, the sound surprisingly melodic. The teen nodded. It was almost as if they were communicating.
Ianto straightened, tugging at his suit jacket -- and making sure to cover the bulge of his weapon. "Hello," he said, putting on the Helpful Teaboy smile. "Welcome to Cardiff."
The teen stepped into the room properly, giving Ianto a bit more to size him up with. There was a slightly nervous tint to his demeanor, one of a man a touch out of his depth, but Ianto could tell it was something that would pass. He moved with a grace that only dancers or fighters possessed, eyes taking in every detail of the room with a practiced flick of the eye.
Ianto was reminded of a snake. Safe enough, provided you didn't step on his tail or wave bait right in front of his nose.
"I'm looking for Ianto Jones?" the man queried, his voice slightly accented. Ianto thought he caught a hint of an Asian spin to his words, but it was the type of accent that someone picks up after living in the country for long enough, like how Jack pronounced certain words. His native accent was different, unrecognizable. "I'm Yamino Ryusuke."
Ianto's smile turned a little less fake. He bowed politely at the waist. "Hajimemashite," he greeted. Thank you Tosh and your Japanese lessons.
"Dozo yoroshiko," Yamino greeted, bowing back. "Thank you for the effort, but I'm fluent in English."
Ianto nodded. "All right. Captain Harkness said that you and your master are to be allowed down into the Hub," he said before looking down at Fenrir. "You might want to keep that one on a leash, though," he continued. "Myfanwy likes furry things."
Fenrir let out what Ianto swore was a disdainful sniff, and Yamino covered his mouth with one hand. "I'm sure he will be fine," he said, smothered mirth evident in his voice.
The door creaked a little bit when another person joined them. This newcomer was barely a kid, probably about ten if Ianto was pressed to guess, but he carried himself with the air of a world-weary adult. His green eyes were bright and youthful, but there was a pain in them, one that Ianto sometimes saw in Jack's. This kid had seen a lot.
... and there was a pink, marshmallow-looking thing resting on his mop of red hair.
Right. Don't ask, just smile. The customer was always right.
He bowed again, dipping just a little bit lower this time. When he straightened, the boy had a look of pure delight on his face. "So it was you!" he said, crossing the room and grabbing one of Ianto's hands. "I was hoping that it was, when Yamino mentioned your name."
"E-excuse me?" Ianto stammered, letting the kid shake his hand.
The door, slightly ajar behind Yamino, suddenly slammed shut, making all four beings in the Booth jump. "That'll be the Captain," Ianto explained, turning to the wall.
The hidden door swung open and Jack appeared, grinning. "Loki. Good to see you again."
Ianto's eyebrows shot up to his hairline. "Loki?" He looked from Jack down to the boy still holding his hand and then back to his Captain. "Loki as in the Norse Loki?"
"Beings in another plane of existence, somewhere vaguely above us?" Jack asked, that film star grin flashing at him. "Coming down to play with humans? Sounds like Torchwood's jurisdiction if you ask me."
"Loki," Ianto repeated. "God of Chaos and Pranks, end of the universe as we know it Loki?"
"That's just speculation," Yamino said with a nervous chuckle and a vague hand wave.
Wait. Loki. Had two sons. Fenrir, big monster wolf that kills Odin, reincarnated as a puppy. Which would probably make quiet Yamino his second son, the world snake.
"I always knew Torchwood would be involved in the end of the world," Ianto finally managed, sighing.
Loki laughed and patted his hand. "Don't worry. You're one of my Chosen."
"No offense meant, sir, but that is so not comforting," Ianto told him.
"It's not really meant to be," Loki reassured him before turning to Jack. "Shall we, Captain?"
"Ianto Jones, a Chosen of Loki?" Jack mused aloud as he lead the god-child down into the Hub. "And here I was thinking that I was the only Chosen one in Cardiff."
Ianto rolled his eyes skyward, preparing to ask the higher powers why him again, but stopped. "Never mind," he sighed, covering his eyes with his hand and shaking his head. "Don't need any more of you lot."
Yamino's quiet laugh mixed in with Fenrir's bark of amusement, mocking him.

Japanese translations:
* Hajimemashite -- It's a pleasure to meet you. Used mostly for meeting someone the first time
* Dozo yoroshiko -- Glad to meet you. Not necessarily for the first time.
Norse Myth References, Courtesy of Wiki:
Loki
Midguardsumer/Jormungand/Midguard Serpent
Fenrir
Also, the cute little marshmallow on Loki's head is Ecchan, a demon Loki tried to summon up to scare a mortal. It didn't turn out as planned. Ianto can see him because he's one of Loki's Chosen. The others probably wouldn't be able to see him.

*pokes the bunnies with a stick*
Ianto was reminded of a snake. Safe enough, provided you didn't step on his tail or wave bait right in front of his nose. That or pissing his father off. Lol. Loki might just order Yamino to eat them.
... and there was a pink, marshmallow-looking thing resting on his mop of red hair. Yay~ Ecchan came along! In the anime it was a failed summoning to scare Mayura-papa but in the manga it was a failed summoning during an investigation. *cough*Have both the anime and manga*cough*
*pokes at bunnies*
It would be interesting to see the team's reaction to Loki. Not to mention them knowing about Jack and Ianto being Loki's chosen (it would really help the team to understand the amount of trouble they're dragged into: they're in the company of two of Loki's chosen).
*pokes bunnies again*
One question: When did Jack meet Loki for the first time?
*waves carrots infront of bunnies* Wake up bunnies~ I have munchy carrots for you~

And Gracie, I'll have you know that I had a dream last night, after I read these two stories...in which Ianto is one of Death's incarnation, not yet conscious of his own identity, unknowingly bringing death and ruin to those around him...When he becomes Death itself, he is capable of bringing Jack the eternal peace. God, Death!Ianto is too attractive for words...
