amai_kaminari, who wrote this outline; I just filled in the blanks! Massively unbetaed, but hey, it's NaNo. Quote is the first line of Diana Wynne Jones' Charmed Life. Great book. Great series, actually.
Gojyo felt a momentary flutter of panic when he woke up in an empty bed. He was so used to waking up with Hakkai's warm, reassuring weight next to him that he got uneasy when the sheets were cool.
The panic disappeared as quickly as it had flared up when he raised his head off the pillow and saw a sliver of light under the bedroom door. It looked like Hakkai wasn't quite ready for bed, while Gojyo had dropped off fairly early tonight.
He levered himself up off the mattress, smothering a yawn with one hand before moving it upwards and pushing his hair back from his face. Padding to the door, he smiled a little when he saw Hakkai sitting at the couch. He was leaning on one hand, elbow on the arm of the couch as he held the book in the other, chuckling softly every now and again.
The brunet didn't look up when Gojyo walked into the room; he didn't even move when the half-demon sat next to him except to turn the page. After about half a minute, Gojyo turned and stretched out on the couch, resting his head on Hakkai's lap even as he swung his feet over the other arm of the couch.
Pretty green eyes looked down from his book to gaze fondly into Gojyo's dark red ones, a hint of a smile tugging the edges of those kissable lips. Without him having to ask, Hakkai flipped to the beginning of the book. His fingers dug into Gojyo's hair, massaging his scalp as he started to read aloud.
"Cat Chant admired his elder sister Gwendolen."
Crimson red eyes closed as he let his lover's voice wash over him, a world of witchcraft and orphans and those with less-than-noble intentions hopefully getting theirs at the end playing out behind his eyelids. He drifted in and out of consciousness, the long, dexterous digits combing through the long strands relaxing him even further. The story was interesting and amusing, and he chuckled at all the right places -- more or less -- but eventually the soothing sound of Hakkai's reading lulled him down to sleep.
He was almost fast asleep when he realized that the brunet was no longer speaking. He made a half-aborted noise of protest, shifting a little, but he stilled when he felt those soft lips press against his forehead. He smiled just a little when Hakkai's mouth touched his face again, this time gently touching the tip of his nose.
Hakkai pulled his hand out of Gojyo's hair and shifted the book from his left hand to his right. This freed up his hand to place it over the one of Gojyo's that was resting directly over the redhead's heart.
Gojyo fell asleep with Hakkai's kiss on his mouth.
He'd get Hakkai to read him the rest when he woke up.
