The one Sanzo really hated, of course, was Goku.
The stupid, inane questions that never made sense to anyone besides the monkey.
The constant chattering that drove into his ear like an icepick and had gotten Goku banned from the entire western wing of the temple during daily meditation.
The begging for sweets, meat buns, food of any sort, that was far worse than the groveling of the monks and the pious.
The fawning look of pure adoration he sometimes caught Goku giving him when the young demon thought he wasn't looking, the one that made his heart clench just a little bit.
The moping when he was sick and Goku wasn't.
The way he now had this slight flutter of panic whenever they were parted in battle, even thought he full well knew the monkey could handle himself --
In the seat behind him, Goku let out a little groan as he came half-awake, rubbing at his eyes. He moved to lean against the back of Sanzo's seat, one arm wrapping around to rest in the monk's lap. Said monk growled low in his throat, but didn't make the effort to push the arm away. It wouldn't do him any good, anyway.
Sanzo had long since come to terms that living without him would be like not having an arm, or a leg, or a piece of himself that he'd never realized was missing. He didn't have to like it, but it was there all the same.
The thing he absolutely hated about Goku, he reflected as he absently lit a cigarette, was that he actually couldn't bring himself to hate him.

Date: 2010-03-10 01:22 pm (UTC)I remember reading someone's Saiyuki analysis LJ post once, and she noticed that Sanzo's expression upon seeing Goku shot in Reload 6 was the same expression that Gojyo had when Hakkai died in Reload 7. :)
