katestamps for the series title! Everyone flood her with love!
"It's a phone box. Sol 3 -- Earth -- about 1960s, I'd say."
"It's a TARDIS. The chameleon circuit's jammed."
"This is a Type 40. I haven't seen this kind in ages!"
Susan smiled up at her grandfather. "Isn't it beautiful?"
"Where'd it come from? All the 40s were decommissioned," the Doctor asked, looking down at her. "A long time ago."
"The Counsel pulled it off two humans, if you believe that." She reached out to pat the wooden side of the TARDIS.
"Humans?"
"Two men." She gave a grin. "Cute, too. The brown-haired one's a horrid flirt, he'd hit on half the room within three minutes. The dark-haired one, oh, he was beautiful. And that voice!"
The Doctor shifted uncomfortably, looking down at Susan.
She beamed back up at him. "Don't worry, I think they were, you know, together." Which was a pity, really.
"I see you're going to be just like your mother at that age," the Doctor muttered. "Obsessed, she was."
Susan pushed the door open, urging him inside. Oh, they'd get in so much trouble for this. He had to fight down a grin and continue looking stern as he followed his granddaughter.
She was going to give the High Council heart attacks. Oh, her grandmother would be so proud!
The two Time Lords peered into the TARDIS, looking about carefully. The Doctor wrinkled his nose in distaste. "Coral. Horrid theme. I'm never going to use it."
The young woman stepped inside, touching the walls of the ship. "She's ancient already!" she said quietly, turning to smile at the Doctor. Her grandfather was at the consoles, touching the swivel screen gently. "Grandfather."
"Hmn?" He was looking at the screen, tapping through the ship's log. Property of Torchwood Three, Cardiff, Wales, UK. What the hell was Torchwood, and what happened to the other two? And it was in Cardiff. Curiouser and curiouser.
"Did you ever... fly one of these?"
He looked up from his searching, a picture of two humans standing next to one another, coats wrapped tight around their bodies and tails flapping in the wind, faded off the screen. Susan was right, they were together; the brown-haired one had been kissing the other's cheek. "Yes..." he said slowly, frowning at her. "What are you plotting, child?"
"We've been learning about TARDISes at the Academy, see," she started, coming closer as she talked. "Basic repair and maintenance, that sort of thing." She smiled. "I thought maybe you could give me some... hands-on instruction?" she suggested innocently.
"No. You have schooling left."
"Please!" she grabbed his hands. "Please Grandfather! We can just go out for a quick spin and then come back home. It'll take half a minute, no one will ever know!"
"I promised your parents before they left that I'd make sure you finished your time at the Academy," the Doctor argued back, but he felt his resolve slipping. He'd never been able to say no to Susan. She was just so much like him. He wanted to encourage her rebellious streak, nurture it, watch it grow, see it fly among the stars.
"Pleeeeeeease Grandfather?" she begged, squeezing his hands.
The Doctor sighed. "One trip," he relented. Susan let go of his hands and clapped in excitement, already starting to flip switches on the console. "Any idea where you want to go?"
"You've talked about London before," she said, looking up at him. "I want to go there!"
"I only went to London once, and I was much younger then. Your grandmother was the one piloting, and we had friends along to help us fly."
"Oh, Grandfather," she said, waving her hand distractedly. "Just help me set the coordinates."
"You do realize we're stuck."
Jack smiled and wrapped his arms around Ianto's waist. He rested his chin on the Welshman's shoulder and looked out over Gallifrey. Oh, the legends weren't even close to reality. "Nah."
"We're stuck on a planet that's going to eventually burn," Ianto continued.
"All planets eventually burn," Jack pointed out. "Besides, they said they'll take us home." He kissed the side of Ianto's neck. "If they don't, we'll steal another TARDIS."
"Jack!"
Ianto's quiet rebuke made the older immortal laugh, spinning Ianto about in his arms and kissing him. "You say that like we both haven't done it before."
"Still don't like doing it," Ianto protested.
Jack smiled and kissed him again. "My beautiful, innocent Ianto."
A dark eyebrow quirked. "Jack. We've been together for nearly three thousand years. I think you know that I'm far from innocent."
Jack grinned and tugged at his husband's tie. "Oh? I forgot. Prove it to me."
The two immortals' laughter echoed down the hall outside their room.

Date: 2008-05-12 08:07 pm (UTC)But...*lip wobbles* what about chapter 3 part 4? We're going to see what happens when Gwen and Ianto's mum wind up in the same room, right? I predict they'll either bond and make the poor boys do something frightfully embarrassing (yes, worse than skyclad) or they'll hate each other on sight. Either way, I plan to bring popcorn. ;)
