I'm sure you've all heard about Amazon by now. And, to be honest, darling
teachwriteslash puts it far better than I ever could.
Here's what I did:

They're not getting another dime out of me.

Date: 2009-04-13 04:18 pm (UTC)I'd heard about the parenting one (*gag*) but not everything on that list is as bad as that. I've checked several of the books "The Bible, Christianity, & Homosexuality", "Jesus, the Bible, and Homosexuality, Revised and Expanded Edition: Explode the Myths, Heal the Church" and "For The Bible Tells Me So" (this one is dvd). The last one "For the Bible told me so" seems to be a book about Christian families coming to terms to having a homosexual child. The other two appear to be books delving into the Bible to find what it really says about homosexuality and seems to come up with a decision against the popular knowledge of fundamentalist Christians (These two didn't have descriptions but that's what the comments seem to indicate)
So maybe if there is some sort of Christian reference books were safe from the derank?

I wonder if any Christian books got deranked...

Date: 2009-04-14 02:12 am (UTC)I usually lurk for pretty much no other reason than I don't have anything important to say (I don't count "*drool* WANT MORE" and "<3" as something to break out of lurkdom to say) I found your journal via totally4ryo (anime transplant) and have to say I've been enjoying your stories.
For some strange reason I doubt that Christian books got hit, seems anything that had some sort to reference to sexual organs (if the article I found a bit ago is to be believed, it's what amazon is saying at the moment that several thousand other books were also affected) or GLBT were majorly hit.

Date: 2009-04-14 02:23 am (UTC)I doubt Christian books got hit as well, but I'm a suspicious little so-and-so like that. It sounds like -- to repeat myself -- a knee-jerk to someone saying something, to be honest.

Date: 2009-04-14 02:30 am (UTC)Sounds like part of what lead to this is the use of using only certain key words in descriptions to identify "adult" content. Which didn't work (obviously) because a. just because that word appears in the content doesn't mean it's adult and b. books that should have been hit don't necessarily have those words in the description. Of course this is mostly assumption based on teach's observations and assuming that what amazon says happened is true.
